Bicycle diaries, Italy. Siena to Castellini di Chianti.

The Chianti area in Tuscany is like a jewel in a crown. It catches the eye by collecting and reflecting every bit of light and colour. So it is with all of the “di Chianti” towns.

The villages at the top of the hills are small medieval fortresses, with high walls and a few towers as symbols of wealth and power. They all have grand churches, as signs of wealth and power, too. However, inside the villages and towns it is difficult to believe that so many battles could have been fought here. Life is peaceful and involves a lot of talking, food and coffee. Perfecto!

These photos are of a little cafe where we stopped, a steep bit of road, and my accomodation. My room is like something out of a fairytale, with a little window out through the stone wall, big beams holding the brick and tile roof together and a great little courtyard.

   I love this place.
